Paul Davis`Bio

Paul Davis` first encounter with the industry was as an artist/connoisseur when he joined the school band in the sixth grade, as a trombone player. His second close encounter with the industry came the following summer when he purchased his first piece of music (Funkadelic “Maggot Brain”). This changed the way he heard music forever. His scholastics on the school band ended after five years but it taught him the basics fundamentals of compositions. Armed with former musical training and a hunger for more of the complex compositions he discovered with Funkadelic, he embarked on a mission as an avid record collector. This led to him comprising one of the leading vinyl collections in the country.

His penchant for music led to numerous endeavors with Bust It Records (MC Hammer’s label) & Capitol Records, resulting with Mr. Davis receiving his first plaque for his promotional contributions to the multi-platinum album “Please Hammer Don’t Hurt `Em”. In 1986 while attending the University Of South Carolina as a history major, Mr. Davis became an on-air personality at WUSC, then ranked top ten in the nation. Shortly after taking his post at S.C.R.P. Mr. Davis was contacted by James Alexander (The Bar-Kays), then national director of promotions at Select-O-Hits. Mr. Davis accepted the post as Select-O-Hits field marketing rep for the Carolinas while still holding his post as director of S.C.R.P. Within weeks Mr. Davis was also contacted & contracted Bellmark Records (Stax Records former CEO & industry legend Al Bell’s new label). As field marketing rep for Bellmark Records Mr. Davis was responsible for introducing Tag Team (Whoomp There It Is) and the A-Town Players to the South Carolina Market.
